The Burmese Red-brown Sailor, Neptis nata adipala, from Nakahon Nayok ผีเสื้อกลาสีตาลแดงพม่า จากนครนายก

       Wingspan 40-50 mm. Small size with black and white markings, similar to N. yerburii, but cell streak in FW is very narrow, UN dark reddish brown background color. Subsp. adipala with cell streak and spot beyond it tinted with brown, whereas those of gononata are white without a brownish tinge.
       ผีเสื้อกลาสีตาลแดงพม่า เป็นผีเสื้อกลาสีขนาดเล็กสีด้านบนสีดำด้านล่างสีน้ำตาลแดง มีแถบและจุดสีขาว แถบสีขาวที่อยู่ในเซลล์บนปีกคู่หน้าค่อนข้างเล็กมาก ผีเสื้อมักบินๆ เกาะดูดกินน้ำตามพื้นทราย ภาพจากน้ำตกวังตะไคร้ นครนายก กรกฏาคม 2551

The largest beetles (Chalcosoma caucasus) breeding plan already started. ได้ฤกษ์การเพาะขยายพันธุ์กว่างสามเขาจันท์ กว่างที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในประเทศไทย

  
         The largest beetles in Thailand, Chalcosoma caucasus, once they were in the same glass case, the large male started copulating without any delay. However, they might not like my flashing light or because it was a hot day time, so the copulation time was too short just about 5 minutes. The female then hided herself underneath while the male walked around aggressively to find her again.
        กว่างสามเขาจันท์คู่นี้ไม่รีรอทันทีที่จับใส่ตู้ที่เพิ่งจัดเสร็จก็เริ่มผสมพันธุ์กันทันที อย่างไรก็ตามเนื่องจากเป็นเวลากลางวันที่อากาศอาจจะร้อนและถูกรบกวนจากแสงไฟจากกล้องถ่ายรูป เวลาในการผสมพันธ์จึงสั้นมากไม่ถึง 5 นาที ตัวเมียพยายามมุดดินหนี ในขณะที่ตัวผู้ก็คลานตามหาตัวเมียไปทั่ว สุดท้ายก็มาหยุดกินอาหาร (เยลลี่) ดีกว่า ส่วนตัวเมียก็ทนอดไปก่อน

The Common Banded Demon, Notocrypta paralysos asawa, from Nakhon Nayok ผีเสื้อนิลวรรณธรรมดา จากนครนายก

        Wingspan 33-36 mm. Sexes are similar, FW usually with a white dot in space 4 or without in subspecies occur in Nakhon Nayok or the north of Thailand, larger size in female, no subapical spots; UN with the white band partly and obscurely continuing above the cell of FW.
        ผีเสื้อนิลวรรณธรรมดา เป็นผีเสื้อบินเร็วสีน้ำตาลเข้มจนถึงดำ มีแถบสีขาวที่ปีกคู่ แต่แถบไม่ล้ำไปถึงของปีกชนิดย่อนที่พบที่นครนายกและทางเหนือจุดในช่อง 4 ใกล้ปลายปีกมักหายไป ผีเสื้อชนิดนี้บินเร็วบางทีบินไล่กันหมุนเป็นวงกลมตามเข็มนาฬิกา แต่ก็มักลงมาเกาะที่เดิมจึงสามารถเข้าถ่ายภาพได้ไม่ยาก

The Common Hedge Blue, Acytolepis puspa gisca, from Nakhon Nayok ผีเสื้อฟ้าพุ่มธรรมดา จิ๋วแต่แจ๋วจากนครนายก

       Wingspan 20-28 mm. Male UP is shining blue, with medium black border, wide increasing to 2.0 mm. at apex; UnF spot in space 2 shifted inwardly out of line with spots in space 3-5. Female has broader dark borders, UpF with an oval discal white patch, UpH dark brown except discal grayish-white patch and with iridescent blue tinge basally, in both sexes the white discal patched are broader in dsf . This small, but beautiful butterfly has been seen at Lan Rak Waterfall, Nakhon Nayok early July 2008. 

       ผีเสื้อฟ้าพุ่มธรรมดา เป็นผีเสื้อที่มีด้านบนปีกสีฟ้าอมม่วง ขอบสีดำ ส่วนด้านใต้มีสีขาวแต้มและลวดลายด้วยสีดำ เป็นผีเสื้อที่สวยงามชนิดหนึ่ง มีนิสัยไม่ตกใจง่าย ชอบบินเขามาเกาะตามตัวของคน โดยเกาะอยู่ที่ศีรษะอยู่นานก่อนบินไปเกาะใบไม้และบางครั้งก็ลงเกาะตามพื้นเพื่อดูดกินน้ำเกลือแร่กินเพลินๆ

Soldier long-horned grasshopper, Sanaea regalis, from Nakhon Nayok ตั๊กแตนหนวดยาวทหาร สีสุดสวยจากนครนายก

        A beautiful long-horned grasshopper from Nakhon Nayok. At first glance while this long-horned grasshopper walking on the ground at Wang Takrai Waterfall, Nakhon Nayok both wings were hold up fan-like. This acting manner aims to scare the enemies. However, wings are held at the back as usual when there is nothing happen or at rest.
        ตั๊กแตนหนวดยาวทหาร เป็นตั๊กแตนหนวดยาวที่สวยมาก ปีกคู่หน้าสีเขียวมีแถบสีน้ำตาลเหมือนทหารพรางตัว ส่วนปีกคู่หลังเป็นปีกบางสีน้ำตาลเข้มมีลายสีน้ำเงินทำให้ดูน่าเกรงขาม เมื่อมองเห็นครั้งแรกขณะที่ตั๊กแตนหนวดยาวทหารเดินอยู่บนพื้นใกล้กับน้ำตกวังตะไคร้ นครนายก ปีกทั้งสองคู่ชูกางไปด้วยขณะที่มันเดินอยู่เพื่อข่มขู่ศัตรู เหมือนพัดที่คลี่กางออก อย่างไรก็ตามเมื่อมันรู้ว่าไม่มีภัยจึงหุบปีกไว้บนหลังเหมือนเดิม

The big nosed hawk moth, Craspedortha porphyria from Chanthaburi ผีเสื้อจรวดเล็กลายจมูกโต จากจันทบุรี

        The adults are very little sexual differences. The background color of wings varies from light brown to blackish brown. I have seen some of them bearing a warning pattern resembling a man face with big nose and closed eyes. The adults was locally common at a certain place in Patong, Chanthaburi, about 20 of them came to the light for that night.  
         ผีเสื้อจรวดเล็กลายจมูกโต ตัวเต็มวัยมีหลายโทนสีจากน้ำตาลอ่อนถึงน้ำตาลเข้มเกือบดำ ด้านบนอกมีลายคล้ายหน้าคนที่มีจมูกโตแต่หลับตา ปกติไม่ค่อยพบผีเสื้อจรวดนี้บ่อยนัก แต่ถ้าพบมักจะมีหลายตัว เช่นที่ประตง จันทบุรีเมื่อ 27 มิถนายน 2551 มีบินมาเล่นไฟประมาณ 20 ตัว

The spotted golden-looper moth, Dysphania sagana, from Chanthaburi ผีเสื้อหนอนคืบทองเฉียงพร้าจุด ผีเสื้อกลางคืนที่บินกลางวันจากจันทบุรี

        It is a day-flying moth. I found it flying near the guest houses at Khao Soi Dao Wildlife Sanctuary in the morning seeking nectar from flowers. The larval stage feeds on Carallia brachiata. Caterpillar is a yellow looper with longitudinal greenish-blue stripes and a number of black spots on thorax and abdomen (photo of caterpillar after Oleg Kosterin). Another similar species which the caterpillar feeds on the same food-plants is Dysphania militaris (Linnaeus, 1758).  
        ผีเสื้อหนอนคืบทองเฉียงพร้าจุด เป็นผีเสื้อหนอนคืบที่มีสีเหลืองทองขอบสีม่วงน้ำเงิน มีจุดสีเข้มประปรายในปีกทั้งสองคู่แต่ไม่มีเส้นหรือแถบเฉียงเหมือนผีเสื้อหนอนคืบทองเฉียงพร้าขีด Dysphania militaris (Linnaeus, 1758) ผีเสื้อหนอนคืบทั้งสองชนิดมีขนาดปีกกว้าง 68-84 มิลลิเมตร สีและลวดลายใกล้เคียงกัน อีกทั้งมีรายงานถึงพืชอาหารของหนอนทั้งสองชนิดว่ากินใบเฉียงพร้านางแอ เช่นเดียวกัน

The Common Fivering, Ypthima baldus baldus from Chanthaburi ผีเสื้อสีตาลจุดตาห้าธรรมดา ผีเสื้อที่มีคนรู้จักกันน้อยจากจันทบุรี

                           Ypthima baldus baldus (Fabricius, 1775) 
         Wingspan 30-40 mm. Male, UN high contrast between white and brown striations, prominent dark discal and postdiscal fasciae, the latter broader below at near dorsum of FW and tends to enlarge as foot-shaped in male, two dark ocelli in space 1b rather small and generally counted as one ocellus, those in spaces 2 and 3 touching each other or nearly so, same as the ones in spaces 5 and 6, infrequently an additional small ocellus present in space 4. Lfp. Pogonatherum crinitum  หญ้าไผ่หยอง.
         ผีเสื้อสีตาลจุดตาห้าธรรมดา เป็นผีเสื้อในสกุลเดียวกับผีเสื้อสีตาลจุดตาสี่ธรรมดา แต่มีจำนวนตามากกว่า โดยทั่วไปจุดตาในช่อง 1b มีสองตาที่อาจเชื่อมติดกันเป็นตาเดียวในที่นี้จึงนิยมนับเป็นตาเดียว ส่วนตาในช่อง 2, 3 และ 5, 6 อาจจะวางอยู่ใกล้กันหรือติดกัน สีพื้นด้านใต้ปีกค่อนข้างตัดกันระหว่างสีอ่อนและสีเข้ม ผีเสื้อกลุ่มนี้จำแนกชนิดค่อนข้างยาก และน่าเสียดายมีคนให้ความสนใจน้อย

The Common Fourring, Ypthima huebneri, ผีเสื้อสีตาลจุดตาสี่ธรรมดา ขนาดเล็กเห็นบ่อยๆ แต่คนทั่วไปไม่รู้จัก

        Wingspan 28-32 mm. A small species and the only four-rings. UN with four ocelli in spaces 1b, 2, 3 and 6 of HW, the ocellus in space 3 is much smaller than others in both sexes.Distribution: N-TM, V (Chanthaburi, Songkhla, Than To).  
        ผีเสื้อสีตาลจุดตาสี่ธรรมดา เป็นผีเสื้อสีเทาปนน้ำตาลอ่อนขนาดเล็กที่บินตามหญ้าและพุ่มไม้เพื่อรับแสงแดดในยามเช้า พบทั่วไปจนคนมักไม่สนใจ ผีดสื้อในสกุลนี้มีหลายชนิดและจำแนกชนิดค่อนข้างยากด้วยเช่นเดียวกัน ภาพที่เห็นได้จากเขาสอยดาว จุดตาที่ 3 ที่อยู่ใต้ปีกคู่หลังมีขนาดเล็กมาก

The olive-green cut-winged hawk moth, Eupanacra bursiris bursiris, a rare and beautiful hawk moth from Khao Soi Dao ผีเสื้อจรวดปีกตัดสีเขียวมะกอก เป็นผีเสื้อจรวดที่หายากและสวยมากจากเขาสอยดาว

                             Eupanacra bursiris bursiris (Walker, 1865) 
        It is one of the most beautiful hawk moths of the trip to Khao Soi Dao in June 2008. Fore-wing with anterior half olive green, but the green color fades into brownish in old specimens. Its habitats are mainly in the north, central and southeastern territories up to 1,700 m. I have seen one at the early night. Some photos have been taken and then it flew away in the dark. It is an interesting hawk moth for further studies.
       ผีเสื้อจรวดปีกตัดสีเขียวมะกอก เป็นผีเสื้อจรวดที่หายากและสวยมาก แม้จะเห็นเพียงตัวเดียวที่บินมาหาแสงไฟในตอนหัวค่ำของการสำรวจแมลงในช่วงปลายเดือนมิถนายนที่ผ่านมา อย่างไรก็ตามผีเสื้อชนิดนี้บินมาให้ถ่ายรูปไม่นานแล้วก็บินหายไปเลย แต่จัดเป็นผีเสื้อที่น่าสนใจและน่าติดตามมาก
