Karawek stick insect, Asceles artabotrys, a new stick insect from Thailand ตั๊กแตนกิ่งไม้การเวก ตั๊กแตนกิ่งไม้สีเขียวขนากเล็กที่พบและจำแนกชนิดจากประเทศไทยเมื่อไม่นานมานี้

         Karawek stick insect, or Artabotrys stick insect, is a new species and was described recently in Thailand.  The adults are green. Antennae are longer than the front legs, but not longer than the abdomen. Fore-wings are tegmina, orange at side, gray at membranous part. Hind-wing long almost reaches the end of abdomen. Body, abdomen and legs are dark green. They were found in Chachoengsao and Prachin Buri. It feeds on leaves of Annonaceae especially those of Artabotrys siamensis (การะเวก). Adults of both sexes have wings. its body length is about 10 cm. We successfully breed and rear them for some generations since end of 2006 at Siam Insect Zoo.   
ตั๊กแตนกิ่งไม้การเวกเป็นตั๊กแตนกิ่งไม้ชนิดใหม่ที่พบในประเทศไทย ไข่มีสีเหลืองอ่อน รูปไข่แหลมหัวแหลมท้าย ตัวเต็มวัยทั้งสองเพศรูปร่างคล้ายกัน ลำตัวสีเขียว หัวงุ้มต่ำ หนวดยาวกว่าขาคู่หน้าแต่ไม่เกินปลายท้อง ปีกคู่หน้าส่วนที่แข็งมีสันสีส้ม ส่วนที่เป็นปีกบางมีสีเทาเข้ม ปีกคู่หลังยาวคลุมเกือบถึงปลายท้อง ส่วนลำตัว ท้อง และขามีสีเขียวเข้ม พบจากจังหวัดฉะเชิงเทรา และปราจีนบุรี ปัจจุบันเลี้ยงขยายพันธุ์ได้จำนวนมากอย่างต่อเนื่องเพื่อแสดงที่สวนสัตว์แมลงสยาม
