Small Lumphun leaf insect, Phyllium cerebicum de Haan, 1842 แมลงใบไม้เล็กลำพูน พบมากจากลำพูนทางเหนือของไทย

         This is a newly hatched nymph a few days from egg of a small Lumphun leaf insect. One of its habitats is in Mae Tha, Lamphun Province, North of Thailand. The first nymphal stage is very small, red in colored, but visible by naked eyes. The color will be green at the second stage and after that onwards. The first stage lasts for 3-4 days. Eggs incubation period takes 3-6 months, the nymphal stage takes about 6 months to be the full grown adult. We have bred and reared them. Some of them are still alive for displaying as usuall. The foodplants are longan, oak, mango and guava leaves. Male has body length 50-60 mm, with long antennae, forewing short, high-wing long as usuall almost reach the end of abdomen and enable to fly. Female is larger, with body length 40-48 mm. Abdominal segment 8 is lobed beneath, the front femur slightly enlarge and lobed near the apical end. 
       แมลงใบไม้เล็กลำพูน เป็นแตนใบไม้ชนิดเล็กพบในภาคเหนือ โดยเฉพาะจากอำเภอแม่ทา จังหวัดลำพูน ตั๊กแตนในวัยแรกหลังจากฟักออกมาจากไข่จะมีสีแดง ค่อนข้างอ่อนแอและมีขนาดเล็กมาก แต่สามารถมองเห็นได้ด้วยตาเปล่า หลังจากนั้น 3-4 วันตั๊กแตนจะลอกคราบเป็นวัยที่ 2 ซึ่งจะมีสีเขียวเหมือนใบไม้ และจะมีการลอกคราบอีกหลายครั้งเพื่อเพิ่มขนาดตัวให้ใหญ่และสมบูรณ์ขึ้นตามลำดับ โดยไม่มีระยะดักแด้ ระยะไข่ใช้เวลาฟักไข่นาน 3-6 เดือน ตัวอ่อนเจริญเติบโตโดยการลอกคราบจนเป็นตัวเต็มวัย ใช้เวลาประมาณ 6 เดือน ตั๊กแตนกินใบไม้เป็นอาหารซึ่งได้แก่ใบลำไย ก่อ มะม่วง และฝรั่ง เป็นต้น สวนสัตว์แมลงสยามได้เพาะเลี้ยงไว้เพื่อการศึกษาได้หลายรุ่นแล้วและยังมีเลี้ยงอยู่ตลอด ขนาดเพศผู้ ลำตัวยาว 50-60 มิลลิเมตร มีหนาดยาว 40-48 มิลลิเมตร ปีกคู่หน้าสั้น ส่วนปีกคูหลังยาวเกือบถึงปลายท้อง สามารถบินไปหาเพศเมียได้ เพศเมียมีลำตัวยาว 75-95 มิลลิเมตรลำตัวค่อนข้างใหญ่ มักไม่บิน ใต้ท้องปล้องที่ 8 มีลักษณะเป็นรยางค์เล็กๆ แผ่ออกทางข้าง ขาคู่หน้าค่อนข้างเป็นลอนขยายใหญ่ใกล้ปลายโคนขา (femur)
