New butterfly subspecies from Thailand since 2006

S8. Elymnias patna (Westwood, 1851)
ผีเสื้อหนอนมะพร้าวขีดฟ้า The Blue-striped Palmfly
(Family Saturidae: Order Lepidoptera)

Wingspan 60-70mm. Sexes are alike. The UP suggests a Euploea sp., but on the UN is almost without Elymnias striations, except the tornal area of the HW. It mimics male of Euploea mulciber. UP is dark brown suffusion with iridescent blue, the postdiscal blue streaks with whitish spots on the outer edge in spaces 1b, 2, 3 and 5 of FW and with a further triangular blue streak in cell but often absent in inayoshii and obscure in stictica, white spots on FW in inayoshii are more prominent in space 3 and 5 in both sexes than in other two.? HW is dark reddish-brown, paler at margin, much paler in inayoshii, with a series of submarginal whitish spots. Female is larger, the blue streaks on FW are obsolescent than in the male, UpH with additional, obscure, submarginal striations especially in inayoshii.
Specimens examimed for new subspecies, E. patna inayoshii: 1 male Holotype, 6.X.1988, Ranong, Mr. Aroon Samraudkit leg., in coll., Kasetsart Uni.; 1 male Paratype, 20.I.1988, Khao Chong, Trang, Mr. Aroon Samruadkit leg., in coll. Kasetsart Uni., 2 males Paratype, 6.X.1988, Ranong, Mr. Aroon Samraudkit leg., in coll. Kasetsart Uni.; 2 males Paratype, 31.III.1988-1.IV.1988, Muang Shone, Yutaka Inayoshi leg.; 2 males Paratype, 14-17.IV.1987, Muang Shone, Yuji Shiraishi leg., in coll. Yutaka Inayoshi; 2 males Paratype, 7-10.III.1995, Muang Shone, Sudjai Ruangrit leg., 2 females Paratype, 9.III.1995 & 6.IV.1995, Muang Shone, Sudjai Ruangrit leg., in coll. Yutaka Inayoshi.

S82. Erites falcipennis Wood-Mason & de Niceville, 1883
ผีเสื้อปีกใสจุดตาธรรมดา The Common Cyclops
(Family Satyridae: Order Lepidoptera)
Wingspan 45-55 mm. FW strongly falcated and markings reduced in dsf., HW toothed at vein 4. UP is similar to E. medura but the bands on the UN not well visible from the UP as in the former species; UN mid-termen of both wings darkened, so that submarginal and marginal lines become more obscure, spot of outer orange band in space 7 usually wider than that in 6 and spots in spaces 3 and 4 are not so near to postdiscal as in the former species. Subsp. prasiti differs from falcippenis in being comparatively larger and having larger bands, the outer orange band on FW ends at 4 whereas that of the latter usually extending further upwards. The name prasiti is to nominate Bro. Prasit Chaipuak, a member of the team of Bro. Amnuay Pinratana, St. Gabriel’s College.
Specimens examined (E. falcipennis prasiti): 1male Holotype, 9.IX.1978, Chanthaburi, which is the same as fig. 75b in Pinratana, 1988. A similar Thai specimen of the opposite sex was figured by D?Abrera (1985, Butterflies of the Oriental Region, Part II, Plate 445) as E. ? sp. This rather fits more to Erias medura than falcipennis; 1 male Paratype, 7.IV.1979, Ranong, Mr. Aroon Samruadkit, in coll. Kasetsart Uni.
S82a. Erites f. falcipennis

S82b. Erites falcipennis prasiti Ek-Amnuay, [2007]

Distribution: Confined to Chanthaburi and Ranong.

N85. Neptis zaida Westwood, 1850
ผีเสื้อกะลาสีสี่หน้า The Variable Sailor
(Family Nymphalidae: Order Lepidoptera)
Wingspan 60-70 mm. UP is black with yellow-orange markings, a long cell streak similar to N. miah, but larger size, HW pale discal band slightly broader than in N. ?namba and yellow spot in space 2 not quadrate as that in N. miah. According to Eliot, 1969 N. zaida has 6 subspcies so far and it shows an abnormal degree of subspeciation but in fact no seasonal variation. Mr. Yutaka Inayoshi sent me a number of? photos N. zaida from some sources in Thailand and types of all subspecimens. There 3 specimens of N. zaida putoia in the BMNH. S. Myanmar (only the type) and Siam (2 males, Melamoung, Hot Spring, 2300ft. 6-7.III.1933) all of them are whitish form. He had 3 whitish males from Umphang, 7-8.III.1994, as illustrated. There is no convincing evidence of the yellow orange form as described by Eliot for the nominate subspecies, which could applied for this subspecies. Therefore those figs. 75, pl. 32 in Pinratana, 1996 from Phu Khieo, which were yellow orange form and those specimens from Doi Inthanon and Doi Phu Kha should be another subspecies. I would like to propose N. zaida inayoshii subsp. nov. The name is after Mr. Yuataka Inayoshi to thanks for his kind contribution for this study. Those types of N. zaida manipurensis Tytler, 1926: Manipura and N. zaida thawgawa Tytler, 1940: N.E. Myanmar, N.W.Yunnan, which are closely related subspecies having a much broader median yellowish band on HW than N. zaida inayoshii and whiter on underneath of wings.
Specimens examines (N. zaida inayoshii): 1 male Holotype, 26.XI.1989, Phu Khieo, Chaiyaphum, in coll. Mr. Pisuth Ek-Amnuay; 2 males Paratype, 21.III. 1988, Doi Inthanon, Mr. Aroon Samruadkit leg., in coll. Kasetsart Uni.; 1 male Paratype, 11.III.1991, Doi Phu Kha, Nan. Mr.Yutaka Inayoshi leg. 1 male, -.V.1991, Doi Pomeun, Chiang Mai, 2 males Paratype, 24.III.1985 and 12.III.1988, Doi Inthanon, Chiang Mai, Local catcher, in coll. Mr. Yutaka Inayoshi. The specimens from Doi Phu Kha, have deeper orange markings on UP of both wings and deeper coloring on UN than materials from Chiang Mai and Phu Khieo areas.
N85a. Neptis zaida putoia Evans, 1932
         Distribution: South B-WT (Umphang).
