Khao Soi Dao shadow damsels, Protosticta khaosoidaoensis, an endemic species from Chanthaburi แมลงปอเข็มรำไรเขาสอยดาว แมลงปอเข็มเฉพาะถิ่นของไทยจากจันทบุรี

It is an endemic species of shadow damselfly group, confinded to Chanthaburi area especially Khao Soi Dao. Male Abd.+app. 37-38 mm in male 28-30 mm in female, HW 19-21 mm. Head and thorax shining black, striped with azure blue in the latter; abdomen long, but never exceeding twice the length of the wing, with bluish basal rings at segments 4-7 which are more evident in the female. I was very lucky to see at least ten of both male and female at the the banks of Khao Soi Dao Waterfall on 29 June 2008.
แมลงปอเข็มรำไรเขาสอยดาว เป็นแมลงปอเข็มในร่มเฉพาะถิ่นที่อาศัยอยู่ตามน้ำตกโดยเฉพาะที่น้ำตกเขาสอยดาว พบตั้งแต่ชั้นล่าง แต่พบมากในชั้นที่ 5-6 ซึ่งสูงขึ้นไป ลักษณะส่วนหางค่อนข้างยาว แต่ไม่ยาวกว่าสองเท่าของความยาวของปีก เพศผู้มีปลายหางปล้องรองสุดท้ายสีฟ้าอ่อนที่ด้านบน ส่วนเพศเมียปล้องดังกล่าวมีสีน้ำตาลเข้ม แมลงปอเข็มชนิดนี้มีอุปนิสัยค่อนข้างเชื่องไม่ขี้ระแวงเหมือนแมลงปอเข็มทั่วไปมักพบเกาะตามโขดหินริมน้ำตก เป็นแมลงปอที่น่าสนใจมากชนิดหนึ่งของไทย
