Samoeng Capsule Katydid is a medium sized, cone-headed and slender body katydid. Body length isabout 30 mm, wingless, but trace of wing pads can be seen with particular markings. The holotype was from Samoeng described by Ingrisch in 1998. I have seen three males of this species from Botanical Garden at Mae Rim 12.v.12. It is a rare and endemic species from this locality in Thailand.
ตั๊กแตนหนวดยาวทรงกระสวยสะเมิง เป็นตั๊กแตนหนวดยาวขนาดกลาง ส่วนหัวเป็นรูปกรวย ลำตัวทรงกระบอกยาวมน เป็นรูปกระสวย ยาวประมาณ 30 มิลลิเมตร ไม่มีปีก แต่มีร่องรอยของปีกที่ด้านบนอก ลักษณะแตกต่างกันในแต่ละชนิด ตั๊กแตนชนิดนี้เพิ่งมีการจำแนกและตั้งชื่อไว้โดยอิงกริชเมื่อ 14 ปีที่ผ่านมานี้เอง ผู้เขียนพบเพศผู้ 3 ตัวจากสวนพฤกษศาสตร์ แม่ริม ซึ่งอยู่ห่างจากสะเมิงประมาณ 20 กิโลเมตร จัดว่าเป็นแมลงเฉพาะถิ่น ที่หายากและแทบไม่มีคนรู้จัก ขอขอบคุณ ดร.ประมุข เพ็ญสุต ที่อนุเคราะห์ที่พักและช่วยในการศึกษา
