Butterflies Subfmaily Pierinae (I), Family Pieridae from Thailand วงศ์ผีเสื้อขาวเหลืองที่พบในประเทศไทยวงศ์ย่อย Pierinae

       Family Pieridae (Whites and Yellows)The members of this family are generally white and yellow color with black markings, some with red, orange or pale blue. None of them has tails on the hind-wing and fore-legs are fully developed. The new revised species are 61 species and 20 subspecies. I dropped the scarce grass yellow, Eurema lucteola (Distant, 1886). Because no real specimen of this species known in Thailand.
       วงศ์ไพเออริดี้ หรือวงศ์ผีเสื้อขาว ผีเสื้อเหลือง ผีเสื้อในวงศ์นี้มักรู้จักกันในต่างประเทศว่า ผีเสื้อหนอนกะหล่ำ (cabbage butterflies) จนบางคนอาจจะเรียกว่าวงศ์ผีเสื้อหนอนกะหล่ำตามฝรั่ง แต่จริงๆ แล้วประเทศในเขตร้อนรวมทั้งไทยน่าจะเรียกว่าผีเสื้อขาวเหลืองมากกว่าเพราะมีความหลากหลายของพืชอาหารมากกว่าผักกะหล่ำ เช่น คูน ขี้เหล็ก ขุมเห็ด ทรงกลด ทรงบาดาล และอีกกลุ่มหนอนกินใบกุ่มน้ำ กุ่มบก และพุงดอ เป็นต้น ผีเสื้อวงศ์นี้ไม่มีติ่งหางที่ปรกคู่หลัง ขาคู่หน้าของผีเสื้อพัฒนาการดีแตกต่าจากผีเสื้อในวงศ์ผีเสื้อสี่ขา (Nymphalidae)

         Wingspan 35-47 mm. UnF has two black spots in the cell, a prominent zigzag spot and the other small basal spot. The black border on UpF has its inner edge below space 1b inclined towards tornus and not completely touching the dorsal margin, UN without a large apical patch on FW. Female is much larger than the male, UP with broad black dusting border on HW, its inner edge strongly excavated. Distribution: I-NT (Chiang Mai, Chanthaburi and Khao Yai-photos taken from). 
         ผีเสื้อเณรภูเขา เป็นผีเสื้อเณรสองจุดสีดำอยู่ภายในเซลล์ที่อยู่ด้านใต้ปีกของปีกคู่หน้า โดยจุดที่อยู่ด้านนอกมีลักษณะซิกแซกใหญ่กว่าจุดที่อยู่ใกล้โคนปีก ส่วนปีกด้านบน ที่ปีกคู่หน้ามีขอบด้านในของแถบสีดำเป็นมุมฉากที่เส้น 4 แถบสีดำด้านล่างใกล้มุมปีกไม่ตรงเหมือนผีเสื้อเณรธรรมดา แต่โค้งเข้าหามุมปีก เพศเมียมีขนาดใหญ่กว่าเพศผู้

The Dark Clouded Yellow Butterfly, Colias fieldii fieldii, a new butterfly from Doi Pha Hom Poke since 2006 ผีเสื้อปุยเมฆสีส้ม ผีเสื้อชนิดและสกุลใหม่ที่พบจากดอยผ้าห่มปกตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. ๒๕๔๙

Colias fieldii fieldii Menetries, 1855
(Subfamily Coliadinae, Family Pieridae) 
        Wingspan 48 mm. Male from literature, UP is orange yellow with black borers, generally more orange and with narrower borders than the close relate species of Europe, Colias croceus; FW with a prominent large black spot at end cell. Female is slightly larger, UP with broader borders, with additional submarginal yellow spots in spaces 1b, 2, 4-5, traceable spot in space 3 and subapical spots in 6, traceable spot in 8. UN pale yellow, FW with larger submarginal spots than in the European species, which reducing in size consecutively in space 1b, 2, 3, end cell spot large black with a small white central dot on FW, brown with a larger white central spot above inter and another smaller spot at base of space 6 on HW.A single female has been discovered at Doi Pha Hom Poke, 2,100 m, on a late morning on the 8th of May 2006 by Mr. Vichai Puchaneeyangkul, Mr. Prasong Kraisakdawat and Mr. Kampol Sukhumalind. Distribution: S. Iran, Russia, India and S. China. It has just penetrated to NT (Doi Pha Hom Pok, Chiang Mai).
        ผีเสื้อปุยเมฆสีส้ม เป็นผีเสื้อชนิดใหม่ สกุลใหม่ที่พบจากดอยผ้าห่มปก เมื่อตอนสายของวันที่ 8 พฤษภาคม พ.ศ. 2549 ในระดับความสูง 2,100 เมตร โดยคุณวิชัย ปูชะนียางกูร คุณประสงค์ ไกรศักดาวัฒน์ และคุณกัมพล สุขุมาลินท์ เป็นผีเสื้อที่มีเขตแพร่กระจายเนปาล ทางใต้ของอิหร่าน รัสเซีย อินเดีย ทางใต้ของจีน และเพิ่งจะพบเป็นครั้งแรกในประเทศไทยในช่วงดังกล่าว ส่วนรายละเอียดลักษณะภายนอกเป็นภาษาอังกฤษดังปรากฏข้างต้นนี้ ได้รายงานไว้ใน Nature Explorer ปีที่ 7 ฉบับที่ 78 มิถุนายน 2549 ผู้ที่พบอนุญาตให้ผู้เขียนนำลงใน Butterflies of Thailand [2007] - (หมายถึงการแก้ไขปีเนื่องจากพิมพ์ปลายปี 2006 แต่หนังสือพิมพ์เสร็จและมีจำหน่ายต้นปี 2007)

The Red Jezebels commonly seen at this time of the year in Chiang Mai ผีเสื้อหนอนกาฝากสีสวยหลายชนิดพบมากในช่วงนี้ที่เชียงใหม่

       Delias pasithoe (Linnaeus, 1767), The red-base Jezebel, Wingspan 65-75 mm. UP is black with white markings and broad yellow at dorsum of HW, UnH black with a large red patch at base, discal and postdiscal areas yellow except dark dusted veins and the border broadly darkened.

       Delias descombesi (Boisduval, 1836), The red-spot Jezebel, Wingspan 65-80 mm. UnH is yellow with a long basal red patch above vein 7 and blackish border bearing long yellow spots. It is another common red jezebel found especially in Chiang Mai at the moment.

        ผีเสื้อหนอนกาฝากใต้ปีกแดง และผีเสื้อหนอนกาฝากจุดแดง พบมากในช่วงใกล้หนาวโดยเฉพาะที่เชียงใหม่ บางครั้งเราอาจพบผีเสื้อหนอนกาฝากหลายชนิดบินตอมไม้ดอกยืนต้น บางครั้งบินวนเวียนอยู่รอบต้นไม้ใหญ่ที่กำลังออกดอกทั่วไป

The Common Grass Yellow, Eurema hecabe ผีเสื้อเณรธรรมดา หนอนพบทีเป็นร้อย แต่จะรอดเป็นผีเสื้อสักกี่ตัว

        Wingspan 35-45 mm. It is the commonest of the genus because of its big ranges of larval foodplants which are commonly grown everywhere. UP FW border broad with two excavations between veins 2 and 4, forming a right angle at lower vein 4 and sometimes forming an obtuse angle below vein 2 as well. UnF with two cell spots, usually as a dot and an abnormal curve; UN wing margins usually with small black spots and scattered black scales on both wings.          ผีเสื้อเณรธรรมดา เป็นผีเสื้อสีเหลืองแต้มดำขนาดเล็กที่ธรรมดาที่สุดในสกุล บ่อยครั้งที่เราอาจจะพบหนอนที่กินใบคูนและพืชต่างๆ นับเป็นสิบชนิดโดยเฉพาะใบอ่อน บางทีเหลือแต่ก้าน แต่ก็ไม่ทำให้ต้นไม้ถึงตายเพราะหนอนจะกินอยู่ในช่วงสั้นๆ ในระยะใบอ่อนเท่านั้น แต่หนอนของผีเสื้อซิมีชีวิตที่ลำบากปกติมีศัตรูรบกวนมากทั้งถูกตัวเบียนและตัวห้ำลงทำร้าย โดยเฉพาะนก ยิ่งนกในเขตเมืองหรือชานเมืองด้วยแล้วมักหาหนอนเก่งและกินจนแทบไม่เหลือเลย ซึ่งเป็นสาเหตุหนึ่งที่ทำให้หนอนผีเสื้อเหลือรอดตัวเต็มวัยน้อย อย่างไรก็ตามผีเสื้อมีการปรับตัวโดยการวางไข่จำนวนมากเพื่อชดเชยหนอนที่ตายไป หากปีใดช่วงไหนที่ธรรมชาติเกือกูล ศัตรูธรรมชาติรวมทั้งนกมีอาหารอื่นๆ สมบูรณ์ หนอนผีเสื้อก็จะถูกรบกวนน้อยลงช่วงนั้นปีนั้นก็จะมีผีเสื้อมากตามไปด้วย
