Classification of the Coleoptera to families การจำแนกด้วงในอันดับ Coleoptera ลงถึงระดับวงศ์
The order Coleoptera is the largest order of insects in the world, with more or less 400,000 species known. The classification below is followed to the recent publication of American beetles (Arnett et al. 2001, 2002) mentioned in Borror and Delong’s Introduction to the Study of Insects 7th edition by Triplehorn and Johnson (2005). I have made further classification to subfamilies for the two popular families; Scarabaeidae and Buprestidae. Some families marked with * that meant these have been treated as subfamilies in the said reference. There are only 2 suborders listed. Although there are 4 suborders currently listed, but other two which contain small rare beetles and may not occur in Thailand.
อันดับของด้วงเป็นอันดับใหญ่ที่สุดและมีด้วงที่เรารู้จักแล้วมากถึงประมาณ 400,000 ชนิด การจำแนกด้วงในระดับวงศ์ใช้ตามหนังสือด้วงของอเมริกาซึ่งระบุไว้ในเอกสารอ้างอิงข้างต้น สำหรับด้วงวงศ์ใหญ่ที่รู้จักกันแพร่หลาย 2 วงศ์ในที่นี้ได้จำแนกลงถึงวงศ์ย่อยซึ่งได้แก่วงศ์ด้วงสะคาแรบ (Scarabaeidae) และวงศ์แมลงทับ (Buprestidae) วงศ์ที่มีเครื่องหมาย *กำกับหมายถึงวงศ์ที่มีการจัดวางไว้ในวงศ์ย่อย ไม่ใช่วงศ์ดังที่เห็นในเอกสารอ้างอิง และแม้ว่าจะมีอันดับย่อยอีกสองอันดับย่อยที่ไม่ได้ระบุไว้ในรายชื่อด้านล่างนี้เนื่องมาจากเป็นอันดับย่อยของด้วงขนาดเล็ก และอาจจะไม่พบในประเทศไทย

The differences between Suborder Adephaga (Carabidae) and Polyphaga (Tenebrionidae) ความแตกต่างระหว่างอันดับย่อยของด้วงเอดีฟาก้า (วงศ์ด้วงดิน เป็นต้น) และโพลีฟาก้า (วงศ์มอดแป้ง เป็นต้น)

ปล้องฐานของปล้องท้องจากภาพแสดงไว้ชัดเจนถึงความแตกต่างระหว่างสองอันดับย่อยของด้วง ในอันดับเอดีฟาก้า ซึ่งมีด้วงดินเป็นตัวแทน ขาคู่หลังปล้องแรก (coxa) ยื่นยาวแบ่งปล้องท้องปล้องแรกออกเป็นส่วน โคนขาคู่หลังของอันดับย่อยโพลีฟาก้า ซึ่งมีด้วงดีดและมอดแป้งเป็นตัวอย่าง ปล้องแรกของขาคู่หลังไม่ยื่นยาวลงมาจนเลยเส้นแบ่งระหว่างปล้องท้องปล้อง 1 และ 2 นอกจากนี้ลักษณะของวงศ์ด้วงดินที่แตกต่างจากวงศ์มอดแป้ง เช่นหนวดเป็นเส้นด้ายปลายเรียวเล็ก ส่วนมอดแป้งหนวดมักขยายใหญ่ที่ส่วนปลาย
